This is a series of entries under "The Science of Paranormal". If this is your first time reading this please click on the link and follow this form the beginning. Thanks.

Recognition, Faces and Reality.

We have the ability to pick out and recognize 1 face in a crowd. We also can see that same face in the contents of a toilet before it's flushed. Or in a poorly lit camera shot in an old building. Our brains are pre programmed to pick out the features that make up a face. In fact this pre programming ( instinct ) is so powerful the subject could be completely abstract and still acceptable as a face. Need an example? Bugs Bunny, Tweedy Bird and the Grinch. Even if it doesn't have two eyes a nose and a mouth. Optimus Prime and all the cars in the movie ' Cars'.

When investigating it's important to know that what you see isn't always real. Knowing and understanding how the brain works is very important.

Basic understanding of how the mind works is very important to a paranormal researcher. It is THE most important tool in determining if your dealing with a real haunting or not.

Point number one.

The subconscious does not distinguish between reality and fantasy.

Your body reacts to your thoughts. Fantasizing, good or bad, will have direct physical reactions. You could be involved in a completely different situation with no other mental stimulus than your thoughts and your body will react to both reality and fantasy. Anger, sex, food, happiness, fear will all cause real physical reactions. The more your entertain these thoughts the more real they become to your subconscious. Then the more physical reaction you experience. The more real they become to your consciousness = your view of reality. ( maybe not that simple but it works )

Worrying would be the easiest to work with here because we've all done it. Say an incident happens and you react inappropriately to it. Your action could cause unforeseen problematic future events. These events if they accrue would not take place had your actions been different. Later on you think of the event and your reaction. Then you add on to it and think of possible future events. As you fantasize your body goes through physical and chemical changes. Just as if your fantacy was reality. Weather or not your reaction has future repercussions you still believe it will. Your subconscious believes your thoughts are real. Your body reacts to your subconscious. You become engrossed in your preception of the future.Your reality becomes based on your fantacy.

It is very important for a paranormal investigator to understand this.

4/12/2006 - Paranormal research form physics to psychology.

Post one.

The begining.

Howdy all.

Going to start a series of entries on paranormal investigating. This will be from a non psychic, total  skeptic point of view. First I would like to say I'm not looking to make people happy with these posts. Why? I don't think anyone has the right to tell a family of 4 their house is haunted when it's not. If you want to have fun and chase 'orbs' around a graveyard at night that's your thing, take pictures in the spring and late summer, you'll get more of them.  See ghostly faces in every photo if it makes you happy? Go for it. Do all your investigations at night because "That's when ghosts are more active"? Get a designated driver and stay up till dawn. If this is your idea of 'ghost busting' then you probably wont want to read any further.

Non psychic? You don't need to be psychic. Intelligents goes a long way.

Skeptic? Some people are so convinced they scream at their own shadows.

Do I believe in ghosts? Yes

Some things I've personally experienced.

Audio and physical manifestations

Possession.

Poltergeist activity.

Why am I a skeptic?

Some things I've personally experienced.

Mass hysteria.

Psychosis.

Laws of physics.

Fear and it's effects on perception.

Preempted belief.

If your still interested my first post will be on reality and the subconsciousness. A simple touch base on psychosis and it's effect on preceived reality. (no i'm not a psychiatrist. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn once. LOL)
