Big Change in Thought
Couldn't sleep last night, I 've been doing alot of thinking. Last year at Halloween I was so stressed I couldn't enjoy myself with so many people there and so much to do. I have forgotten that feeling with all my planning for the ghost town theme. My motto needs to be SIMPLE but SCARY. I watched "Dead Birds" and got carried away, and I believe my ideas would be great if I had someone here to help me throughout the year. But since DH hunts and fishes he doesn't have time on days off and won't help until October. SO with all of that, I am scratching the town theme and going for a haunted walk through the dark woods of our wooded trail. Now to figure out something to scare their hair white....hee hee hee...I am going to complete my Johnny Appleseed or might even do a PumpkinRot, they are just too cool. Will post new plans later. |

Motivation
Yesterday while researching some on an idea for a prop Deathtouch inspired I ended up on the PumpkinRot site. Here I found a couple of quotes from books and poetry I LOVED and am going to write them here to keep for motivation. (Next to my son and husband Halloween is what I mainly think about so I don't need much motivation! )
And it was the afternoon of Halloween,
And all the houses shut against a cold wind
And the town full of cold sunlight. But suddenly, the day was gone.
Night came out from under each tree and spread.
"The Halloween Tree" by Ray Bradbury
Dark mystery and the smell of singeing pumkinflesh. Swirling dry leaves may be swept along in the wake of passing ghosts. The feeling that, on this one night, absolutely anything could happen.
"The Last Halloween" Poppy Z.Brite
I believe I am going to try my hand at making a Johnny Appleseed before long. I think it would be cool to have in my haunt. I am collecting clothes from thrift stores for costumes. It's January but October will be here before you know it!

Costume Book
Got Empress' book idea in yesterday, "Instant Period Costumes" and think I can make some from the Old West section. It tells you how to make costumes from time periods using thirft store clothes. It included civil war soldiers and cowboys...Wish I could sew better, but I am going to try best I can. I am probably going to get ole Kristie girl here at work to help out. We'll see how well the costume making goes for Halloween '06. |

Ghost Town with Haunted House
Looking out my top floor window the other day I realized I have the perfect set up for my "ghost town" theme. My father's old area where he raised pigs has many old buildings, etc. that can be transformed if I put my mind to it. Cousin Damon figured out the main problem which was cleaning out these buildings; I am for his suggestion of using them as props. The "town" will lead into a path in the woods that leads to an old shed I plan on creating, if the snakes will allow, into a haunted house (or something similar.) Took pics today to begin working on ideas. I am leaning towards a haunted town and house during the civil war era. That seems different and would be very scary. I rewatched "Dead Birds" and got many ideas. I am in great need of costume ideas and ideas on how to build the town. I know I want a jail included. Just a few ideas I am throwing around at the beginning of 2006... |

See Ya 2005!
Just got word my new dvd "Dead Birds" will be here shortly. I want to watch it again (and again) and see if I can gleam some ideas, 2006 Halloween will be here before we all know it! I did manage to upload some photos of my haunt on Photobucket.com and hopefully with help from Empress Nightshade I will be able to post them on the forum soon. More in 2006... |

Halloween 2005 photos
Finally had a chance to get this done, only a couple months late....lol!

Our Pirates will be getting a new ship for next year, I hope.

The guy was hanging arounf deep in the woods...

We added a bridge over our stream this year, we may have spilled some
bad stuff in there, not quite sure where the glow came from...

Our hall of doors, we had some surprises in and around these this year...

The graveyard out front, the Headless Horseman keeps an eye on the place...

The electric chair, this will get some upgrades for next year...

The "a frame" creature, he needs some real help for 2006, his eyes are about
the only thing that'll stay the same...

Julia's Banshee, he kept our guests on the right path deep in the woods...

The Badseed, he'll go back to a "live" gag in 2006, he just stood there this year... |

Ideas Again for 2006
I have been kicking around a few ideas and with the help of some forum buddies. I am definitely thinking about a haunted walk through or trail through woods. Ideas that have been given I bit on were confederate zombie ghosts still in battle, maybe "Dead Birds" theme or isn't there a story by S. King about Confederate ghosts? I have read a good short story not long ago about some but have forgotten who and what as I read so much. I am going to take inventory of what I have packed away and see if I can get my theme going. I have so many horror movie masks and I do not want to do that again this year. How to incorperate them...hmm...need to do research on Civil War and odd happenings during Civil War. Maybe forum friends might know of something if I send out a new thread. I am also thinking of a "Bell Witch" idea since I am from TN. I find info about the Bell Witch interesting, I may try to pull a similar theme for my haunt and see if I can include witches, ghosts, etc. through a trail. More later... |

End of 2005 going to 2006
What a year this has been! It flew by so fast and Halloween has came and gone. Ours was a huge success and I am happy to write I was able to pull it off without anyone getting hurt and everyone seeming to have fun. I was a little disappointed by a comment that was made to me, "not as scary as before but definitely creative." I wanted it to be scary as hell so this was a let down. 2006 I hope to find a happy medium, creative and scary.
A tornado has ripped through our County so I am having some problems focusing on what I want to do next Halloween. I want to think of other things than our county's loss so I am Halloween focused, toying with an idea of another trail walk, or maybe a "ghost walk" through woods. Need to get me a good theme. Forum members have a few good ideas when I posted I needed help, civil war ghosts, med-eval haunt, werewolves, just to name a few. I know I don't want a mish mash of things, I want a theme again and will stick to it.
I want to find a way to put a picture of me and my haunt from this year on here and on the forum. Maybe I can figure it out, not real good with computers. I will try and do better writing my ideas here for what I am planning and producing in the way of my "thoughts" for 2006. I know I enjoy reading other blogs, seeing what ideas I can get from other Halloweenie Freaks such as myself. Peace to All who might read this...

Halloween 2005 results
I'm so late posting this but here goes. We had around 250 or so people come through our haunt over two nights, more or less the same as last year. We raised about $145.00 for breast cancer research, not much but it's better than nothing. We had a ton of people say they couldn't wait for us to run the haunt, said they'd been last year and will be back next year too. It's great to hear that people like what we're doing. We had a lot of help this year getting setup and running the haunt, that helped a ton! Wasn't nearly as crazy getting ready for guests as last year was, hopefully it's even easier next year.
We extended the haunted woods further into the back yard. The new path went out over a little stream that runs through our property. My cousin and I built a bridge over it and most guests loved it, some turned around and didn't go any further...LOL! We have a ton of plans for new gags for next year and have a few new people interested in helping out. With any amount of luck Fitzy's Fright Fest 4 will be bigger and badder...
I will post pictures very soon... |

Weeeeeeeeeee!!
Welp The Mad Tea Party is tomorrow night
and we are all so excited here! Today I am going to spend the day
cleaning the house and getting everything ready for tomorrow.
Then most of the day tomorrow we are going to spend on food and
decorating the house. Everything is just about already set up
though so it shouldn't be much of a problem. It has made it so
much easier on me because I have been planning this party since
January. So far everyone I have talked to that is coming is
really excited about it and thinks I should make it an annual
deal. I just might. Just really depends on mine and the
hubby's money situation really. This year hasn't been too good
but I have still been able to buy new decorations and throw a party at
the same time. So I really don't think it will be a problem for
next year either!
I have my camera all set up and ready to go for the party and we should
take some awesome pics! My friend and I went to get the little
corked bottles for the drinks yesterday and she thought it was the
coolest idea ever! lol. Also I was running a little short
on ideas for other party favors and I had planned on getting glow
necklaces for everyone, but when I went to Wally world to get them they
only had TWO PINK ONES left. So I had to scratch that idea, and i
Just ended up getting glow sticks you can hang around your neck.
I am hopeing they will still be fun though.
But that is just about everything going on so far and I probably won't
be able to post again until Sunday with the pics from the party because
tomorrow I am going to be super busy!!
Oh and also to all of those throwing parties this weekend on Halloween Forum GOOD LUCK to you guys and HAVE TONS OF FUN!!!

BOOing Who?
I didn't have time to post this yesterday
but I finally got a chance to BOO my neighbor! Well it really
wasn't a full-fledged BOO mainly I just got together two Halloween
Pails (One for my neighbor and one for her grandaughter), and went over
to give it to them. My neighbor's grandaughter was so
excited! She is only 2 and she loved the Tot pail with tons of
candy, stickers, and yes even a pair of Halloween socks was in
it. lol. Of course I gave my Neighbor something to decorate
her house with. A pumpkin basket with fall napkins and candles
and stuff in there. I thought she would like it and could use it
to decorate with. And they BOTH loved them! Made me feel so
good.
You know, I really love just giving to other people because it makes
you feel good that you have done something nice for others. I
really like it that I have the chance to do that now and then.
Also my neighbors grandaughter is just a little sweetie and she was so
cute carrying around that big pumpkin pail.
THREE DAYS until The Mad Tea Party!!!! I may go and get the
streamers and everything to decorate with later on today if I have the
time. I can't wait!!! Its going to be so awesome!!!

Fear Factory
Already posted this on Halloween Forum, but
I thought it would be a great blog entry too. I was tryig to
think of how to post about my experience at Atrox all weekend.
Me, my friend, and my husband went to our Local Haunt this past Friday and had a total blast.
The Atrox Factory - Leeds Alabama
We got thier super early, before the gates even opened because last
year when we went we ended up waiting almost 4 hours just to go through
the haunt because there were so many people there. When they
opened we were kind of dissapointed to see they were charging a $2
cover charge to just even get in, and when we got in we had to buy a
higher ticket price of $13 per person. We almost didn't have
enough money because we didn't know they were going to charge a cover
charge.
We did find out however that night they were having the guy who played
The Creeper in Jeepers Creepers there for autographs and stuff, and on
Halloween they were having Kane Hodder in person (Jason Vorhees).
So that was really awesome and then we understood why they went up on
the tickets and the cover charge, so that was pretty okay with us.
We didn't have to wait long at all to get in the haunted house, and got
in with the first group! I would say since we got there we had
probably waited about 15 minutes total. MUCH better than the 4
hour wait we had last year!
As always the Haunt itsself was amazing. A lot of scenes from
House on Haunted Hill - the Mad doctor operating on the insane and
stuff like that. I loved thier optical illusions they had!
They had an older lady cut in half sitting on top of a table! All
while the theme music to Alice was playing in the background, and of
course I was freaking out about that. :D This time though
their clown room was kind of dissapointing. Last time we went
they had at least 12 clowns in there and one was sitting next to a huge
gun shooting at people as they went by. This time there was only
two, but I couldn't really do much counting because I am terrified of
clowns and didn't really want to look at them. ;)
But I would have to say that its STILL awesome and still going
strong. They actually made it a little better with the celebrity
appearences. I thought that was too cool. But if anyone
lives near Leeds Alabama I would highly suggest checking it out its
well worth it for all the awesome stuff you get to see and do in
there. Plus if you get there before they open there is almost NO
waiting at all.

Bringing The Decorations To Life
All day today I have been working on the
layout for the decorations for The Mad Tea Party. Threw around
some new ideas and really liked them. I am sticking to my
original idea about lots and lots of Black streamers, they are cheap,
and you can do a lot with them. Also I felt today I really needed
to give the party a more "Spooky" and "Party" atmosphere other than
just lighting candles and leaving the lights on. After all it is
a Halloween party right?
I figured it would be a great idea to string the streamers
everywhere and make it look very ominous, even streaming them on the
tables and bookcases. Of course during all this time my poor
puppies will have to be put up, because I am afraid of thier appetites
for paper. Also decided to go "Lights out" in the living room and
dining room, which are connected. Also our foryer is basically
its own little room, and I am seriously thinking about hanging
streamers down like a curtain to the guests will feel like they are in
a fun house-type deal. The guests will then walk through the
black streamer curtain and into the living room where most of the party
will take place. The lights will be out, and I have decided to
use my old strobe light set on very very low so it doesn't annoy anyone
but still creates a party atmosphere. Also to cut down on the
annoyance of the strobe light I will have my regular decorations indoor
lights on and lots of candles lit for the mood.
As for music, I have just decided to can the idea of using DirecTV's
Sounds of the Seasons channel because apparently its two weeks before
Halloween and they do not have any Halloween music on there
STILL. So I have totally given up on that. I do however
have a natural love for Rob Zombie, and I do happen to own a DVD of his
most popular music videos. So I thought it would be a cool idea
for music to have it playing on our big screen TV for music and
something fun and spooky to look at.
Also the kitchen is in a totally different room in the house so I
figured I can partition that off with another streamer curtain, and
leave the lights on in there for people to get food and drink and sit
down and what-not.
It is very hard for me to explain the layout though without everyone
knowing what my house looks like. Hopefull though I will get to
take some pics right after I decorate and will be able to post
them. I would love feedback on this layout too so if anyone else
has any cool and cheap ideas please let me know!

A Few Days Off To Rest In Peace
Finally got the invites finished, addressed
and stamped and sent out for the party! With that over with I
have decided to just relax and rest without any tedious planning for a
couple of days to clear my head so I am not so overwhelmed. I
thought this may be a good time this week since Friday the hubby and I
and some friends are going Haunted housing, then Saturday we are
supposed to all go see DOOM. So this weekend is pretty busy but
at least I will be good and rested, and then starting next week I can
really grind at getting the decorations and food ready for The Mad Tea
Party.
My costume arrived too the other day! So I don't have to worry
about that anymore, just have to make that last trip to get the
accessories for it, which shouldn't be too terribly hard to do.
So far so good I have gotten a ton of things done and even have time to
spare for a very small restful vacation.
In my time off however, I have already started brainstorming for next
year. LOL. Been throwing several ideas around and jotting
them down in notepad, so far nothing rock solid yet, probably won't be
until January, thats when I really kick off my Halloween party
planning. I really want to make these Halloween Theme parties
annual events so everyone will have something to look forward to every
year, like they did when I was in High School. I suppose us
Halloweenies never really rest, kind of like the undead.
See you in a few days!

A Good Day To Be A Haunter
| I made good progress yesterday in overcoming the last major hurdle of this year's haunt and completing a couple of props. I found a motor at a thrift store which runs at the proper speed for operating my rocking chair. I had two motors left over from last year, but one runs too fast and the other too slow. Now I will have, as part of my haunted room, a chair which rocks by itself. The other prop I finished yesterday was the Werewolf. It's a fairly simple prop using a mask I bought at K-Mart. The head protrudes from an old doghouse given to me by a neighbor. The head has a small battery opperated motor which will cause it to shake. The addition of sound effects of a growling, snarling dog will make this a very effective prop.
