Hollowman's Haunt

8/28/2005 - Another Prop Done!

I finished my two 4' colums this weekend!     It went a lot smoother than I thought it would, the only hiccup was one of the 2x2 that I bought was warped and caused one of the columns to be crooked.  I went back to Lowes and found another straight one, which actually took a while, since it seems most of their 2x2's are warped....next time I will check Home Depot :)  After getting the frame built I cut out the foamboard sides and attached them with Liquid Nail and then painted them grey.  After that dried, I applied my "weathering" technique, which consists of taking the waterhose and wetting down the foamboard and then spraying black spraypaint while the water runs down....its gives it a pretty good look I think. :)

After finishing that project, I moved onto my Emerging Zombie Prop.  I had already attached the rotating arm to the Shiatsu Massager so I started working on attaching the shoulder and wig head.  After testing it out to see how it moved with the extra weight, I got out the chicken wire to start forming the torso.   I quickly learned that I should have sprung for better chicken wire, as I bought at the low end figuring it would be more lightweight and wouldn't weigh down the rotating arm.  Well, it seems even in chickwire you get what you pay for, the stuff was way too cheap to really get it to form a good torso.  Will have to go back to Lowes and pick up the next step up I guess......
