8/29/2005 - Blow, blow blow your boat!
Well, looks like we're in for a bit of the liquid sunshine today. The sunny south is giving way to the soggy south as Katrina makes her way northward. Oh well - the beautiful thing is that we are likely to catch up on the deficit of precip we have for the year so far and that we get cooler more fall-like weather for the end of the week and into the holiday weekend! Much to my hubby's chagrin, I have begun putting out my fall decorations around the house - along with a couple of Halloween ones! LOL He will just have to live through it! LOL I'll be good till close to the end of the month of September - I promise!
Our local Party City stores have put out some Halloween clearance merchandise over the weekend. You might wanna check it out CK and see if they're doing the same down there. It seems they've taken a big hit in the sales department due to the fact that they had a female who was formerly employed by Macy's in charge of the company. The merchandise she chose didn't go over well and she's been told her services are no longer needed recently. So, maybe soon we'll see the good old Party City back in full swing by next Halloween! They don't even have the small jointed buckies this year! Sheesh!
This weekend will herald my renewed efforts to continue my meager attempt at doing Halloween up big this year! More fencing - getting the rest of my supplies for other projects as well. I have made some bracelets so far - so I haven't just been doing nothing lately - honest!
I'll update tomorrow about the weather! Stay dry, fill up your tanks and have a good evening!

8/23/2005 - No Cool Front - A Little Relief at least
Okay - I admit it...I've never been a big fan of summer. This one has challenged my tolerance to the extreme. And I'm a pretty tolerant woman, trust me. I want to be out building fence or scarecrow or something related to my FAVORITE time of the year but I can't do that without being miserable. It's wrong I tell ya!
Okay - I'll step down now and try to resume my normal benevolent but feisty demeanor.
I found a 36" skeleton exactly like I need - at OrientalTrading.com of all places. It's a bit more than I paid for my original (which was ripped off by heathenous kids) but we shall overcome. I'll order after I get paid again. Next I'll be visiting the Home Depot and picking up a pump and some more fence supplies. I have to build another 10 or 11 sections in the next couple of months. I'm probably going to get the pvc and fabric for my new friend - the bad scarecrow. I want him to have a big very frightening pumpkin head with a wide jagged mouth. Can't wait! I'm still looking for solid foam skulls to use for my skull fountain - let me know if anyone sees any! There has to be a supplier for them - it's what they use to make all the cool chandeliers and candle holders and stuff like that. I thought they were going to have them at Big Lots this year but I'm beginning to think not. I've heard that Walmart should be putting their Halloween out shortly so I'll try them. Till then, I'll gather what I can and work from there.
Can anyone tell me what kind of fabric is best to use outside for a figure - gauze? Thanks for any help!

8/21/2005 - Can I get some ice over here?!?!?
It is so freaking hot here that I can't even think about building anything. Thankfully, we're expecting a cool front to come through tomorrow. It should be the first of the fall cool fronts that should come through about one every week or so. I can hardly wait! I'm hoping to be able to get something done this week. I'm having some difficulty finding the small Bucky I'm looking for. Party City usually carries them - they will not be this year. I can only hope that Walmart will carry them again this year. I'll be making my way over there to check this week. In case I don't find one - does anyone know where I can find a 36" skelly that is jointed in such a way as to be posable? Guess I'll run for now. Have a good Monday everyone!

8/15/2005 - Monday, Monday...
I didn't get much accomplished this weekend - had to go out of state because of a family illness. I'm very glad I got to see my aunt and uncle and spend time with them. Family is the most important thing in the world. It doesn't matter if I have to rush later with props. I have to say, September is a much better time to be doing this stuff. It's too hot now. I think I'm going to gather all the things I need for the props now and work on the ones I can indoors and do the others in September. The good thing is that most of my planned projects can be done indoors! Woohoo
I don't think I've listed my plans for props for this year. After this I lose all deniability! LOL Here we go:
1.) Cemetery fencing to go down my sidewalk to the porch and some for the back patio area
2.) Tombstones to go along with the fencing - probably 6 or 8 of them
3.) Bucky drink fountain
4.) Skull fountain
5.) Bat cave decorations for my foyer
Okay - go ahead and ask any questions and make any fun you want! LOL I also put together a harvest display every year that involves cute scarecrows and haybales and pumpkins and pansies and mums. I think I might want to make a scary scarecrow as well this year. Hmmmmmm - when good scarecrows go bad???

8/11/2005 - So Happy It's Thursday!!!
Yeah - you figure that one out! LOL I'm glad to be heading toward another weekend in which I might be able to get something accomplished for Halloween. I'm so happy to have found folks who share my enthusiasm and their knowledge. I thank you (especially you HH!) for being tolerant and patient with me and all my questions. I thank you for sharing your knowledge so freely and for generally being swell! Thanks to you I've become friends with power tools - who knows, someday I may even learn to make furniture or something equally sensible! I was afraid of them before - when my dad used them there was much noise and throwing of things and lots of words were used I never heard before. LOL So - thanks!
Now, onto other things- like what I'm gonna do this weekend. I think I'll go pick up some more stuff for another section of fencing so I can get that built, too. I really must measure the length of that sidewalk I'm planning to line! LOL I can paint all this stuff a little later on into September after the humididity clears up around here. I'm also going to make another trip to the BL to check what came in this week and I might find the items I need for my other props. I'm filled with anticipation for each weekend - LOL - let's hope this one produces some results! LOL

8/9/2005 - Wooooohhoooooooooo!!!!!
Just wanted to let you all know that Big Lots has some really nifty Halloween items this year! Some skulls, candle holders, banshees, the fabulous $8.88 plastic skelly, and they even have some of the Lemax village pieces. They appear to have been packaged especially for BL so the boxes are a little different, but they are made by Lemax and are the very same pieces you see other places - including the Haunted Galleon, Dr. Tingles' Laboratory, accessory items, and some of the tabletop pieces. The prices are much less than I've experienced at other places so it might be worth checking it out. They don't have a very big inventory of them so, you'll want to check it out before everyone else finds out! LOL
The location I visited hasn't received all their inventory yet so run out in the next week or so and check it out. Just so you know - I'm in no way affiliated with Big Lots or any of its subsidiaries. Just trying to help the cause and enable Halloween habits!

8/8/2005 - Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men...
Well, I survived the root canal, the weekend and so far, I'm surviving Monday morning. I did not get to work on any props but I did enjoy the beautiful weather we had yesterday! We had a beautiful blue sky since we were under the influence of a tropical airmass - and we had a fantastic mixture of different cloud types that made the sky breath-taking! The temperature was only around 83 for the high - and the sunshine looked for all the ever-lovin' world like a fantastic fall day! I felt like I should be heading to the county fair! It was great! And we got to enjoy a full day off for my hubby. We celebrated by going to see Fantastic Four - it was really good! I did get to hunt up some prop supplies yesterday as well. So - I guess that kinda counts as getting something accomplished for Halloween! LOL Have a great day folks and I hope you all get to experience the weather we had yesterday!

7/15/2005 - The Holidays in General
I suppose I should begin by explaining that I love the holidays - all holidays. I do admit that I enjoy Halloween and Christmas the best. Each for different reasons, but pretty equally. I decorate like it's going out of style for both days. I usually begin my Halloween decorating at the end of September - much to my husband's chagrin. He groans when the storage containers appear. Oh well, it makes me and lots of other folks happy so I guess that's what counts. Actually, he loves Halloween as well but he would prefer that the decorations just appeared a couple of days before Halloween and then did the opposite the day after. Like that could happen with 6 boxes of decorations!
I'll add more later.
